To provide access to inclusive, quality, and protective basic education to vulnerable and marginalized children, Out of School Children and youths aged (3-18) in Malakal, Upper Nile State. This project will implement interventions that lead to increased access to education for children. The project will ensure that access to basic education meets the quality standards as set in the INEE minimum standards of Education in Emergencies. Activities will promote enrolment, retention and transition of children to the next school year while minimizing the possibility of dropouts. The learning infrastructure and the school environment will be disability friendly and gender sensitive to learners. School environments will provide intentional MHPSS activities and have clear referral pathways including to Child Protection (CP) to ensure school environments are protective. Teachers will receive CPD and volunteer teachers incentivized. The project will target 4,090 total beneficiaries desegregated into 3,272 children and youths (1,962 Boys & 1,310 Girls), 482 teachers (289 M, & 193 W), 336 PTAs/SMCs (184 M, & 152 W); with 15% comprising of persons with disability Lack of training for teachers on inclusive education for CwDs, No assistive or mobility devices for CwDs, host communities and IDPs. The project will aim at improving equitable access to safe and protective education services for 3,272 children and youths (1,962 Boys & 1,310 Girls) by: enrolling 3,272 children and youths (1,962 Boys & 1,310 Girls) children in pre-primary, primary and secondary schools and in learning centers. 6 Temporary Learning Spaces will be established, rehabilitation of 6 Temporary Learning Spaces, establishment of 8 gender segregated latrines, water points. Additionally, the project will be rehabilitating 8 gender segregated latrines and water points; and distributing or provide sanitation and hygiene materials to 26 schools (hand washing soap, sanitizers, and masks) and PPE for students and teachers.
The project will improve the quality of education, gender and disability-inclusive education services and teachers' capacity to protect the wellbeing of all children by providing 1,636 (916 B & 720 G) emergency-affected children quality education recreational materials; providing teaching and learning materials for 26 schools in ECD, primary and secondary school education. The project will equally be conducting training 420 (231 M & 189 F) teachers on EiE pedagogical skills and child-centered methodologies to improve teaching and learning process for emergency-affected children; update 420 (231 M & 189 F) teachers and learners on PSS, CP, and referral mechanisms including CP/GBV, health and nutrition. Providing life-skills and basic vocational training to 120 (64 G & 56 G) youth and adolescents provide of dignity kits to 1,310 girls in schools; provide customized support to 262 young mothers in schools and to conduct 1-disability assessment. All learning centres will have their referral pathways strengthened or established, with teachers trained on how to identify and refer cases through a child helpdesk.
In order to strengthen/enhance the education system’s response capacity of the school community and national/local education actors the project will: train 336 (184 M & 152 W) PTAs/SMCs and education authorities on school management, governance, PSS and DRR. The project will support prevention and mitigation of communicable diseases through training school communities by providing appropriate Information and Education and Communication (IEC) materials (i.e. posters, leaflets); conducting 5 back to learning campaigns. HAGI will implement directly and with local partners, supporting technical, operational and institutional capacity strengthening of county education system.
